Did you know that May 5th is National Oyster Day? It's true! Although they might not be everyone's cup of tea, for those who like oysters, simply nothing else will do. And what perfect time to throw an oyster roast than on the day named after them? If you've never put together such a shindig, here are a few tips to make it a memorable one.
You're going to want to pick up about one bushel of oysters per four people. It's really easy to put those guys away, so you should either overestimate how much your guests can eat, or serve something on the side, like chili or hot dogs. Oysters are fairly easy to prepare – they're time consuming more than anything else. You can go online to find a quick tutorial if you're unfamiliar with the procedure.
Make sure you have plenty of buckets within reach for guests to deposit empty shells. It's going to get messy, but that's all part of the fun!
